Our Programs

Dignified Lifestyle Community Connections

Arc Chapters across Michigan visit group homes of individuals with developmental disabilities to assure residents are treated with respect and dignity and able to live self-determined lives.

Community Advocates visits group homes contracted by Kalamazoo County Community Mental Health

While at the home, Advocates:
1. tour the entire home
2. complete a form that covers all aspects of daily living
3. interview residents about their quality of life in the home and community.

After each visit, a copy of the report is sent to the Arc of Michigan, Kalamazoo Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Service and the Executive Director of the group home. Concerns are reported to the group home administration with suggestions. Follow up visits are then made.

Advocates also work with individuals at a group home with a particular issue, such as the individual wanting more community involvement change their living environment, or needing medical attention.

These advocacy efforts are handled in the same manner as our Individual and Family Advocacy Program efforts and is then reported to the Michigan Arc in a narrative form entitled "Community Connections Story".
